Amsterdam, Netherlands, July 24th 2019 - Leaseweb just executed a major expansion of the network in its Amsterdam AMS-01 data center, enabling further growth - especially for its high bandwidth customers – and paving the way for applications that benefit from 100Gbps connectivity. The expansion builds on its rack-to-web redundant network architecture and the dual vendor approach for core and border routers, initially connecting to 5 Tier 1 IP backbones with multiple 100Gbps ports – as well as to Leaseweb’s own global network which provides direct connectivity to over 8000 ISPs through private and public peering. The architecture and technology used will be the foundation for all new data center networks, as well as for expansions in current locations.
Bart van der Sloot, Managing Director, Leaseweb Network, comments: “This expansion addresses the strong growth we see in the bandwidth requirements of our customers, especially in the media and gaming markets. We finally see that 100Gbps technology offers the economics we need to provide bandwidth at competitive price levels, so we’ve deployed new generations of rack switches, aggregation switches, and routers. Initially, this enables redundant 100Gbps uplinks from customer racks to our core network – but it also paves the way to deploy servers with 25Gbps, 40Gbps or 100Gbps interfaces. We don’t see a strong market requirement yet for those – but we want to be prepared. The network expansion supports all functionality available in existing networks, including e.g. DDoS IP Protection, Private Networking and Floating IP’s.”
